Lesson 5 – Here, there and placenames
Let’s learn the words for here, there and way over there. This will help us in describing where things are and directions.
Towards the end we’ll practice some sentences using the words for here, there and way over there with different placenames around Wangkangurru country.
Let’s begin with nhayi the closest and work our way to kakarda further away.

Kakarda means way over there, yuwu means man and tharkarnda means standing.

Wangkangurru uses the ending -nga to show that someone or something is in, at or on somewhere.

Wiya-wiya means little boy, karla means creek, -nga means at and tharkarnda means standing.

The little boy is standing at the creek.
Wakarla means crow, patharra means box-tree, -nga means on and thangkarda means sitting.

Kapirri means goanna, thulkurru means ditch, -nga means in and idnhirnda means lying down.
